I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has had the privilege of working in private practice in Ft. Wayne, Indiana since 1989.  I understand that it takes great courage to take this journey of self-discovery.  I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important components of successful therapy.  In order to determine whether I am the best therapist for you, I begin the process by talking to each potential client over the telephone before scheduling an appointment. I work very hard to offer an appointment within a week.

Jocelyn J. Butler

I received my master's degree in Social Work from Indiana University, Indianapolis in 1989.  Prior to my graduate degree I worked at Park Center in Ft. Wayne for two years with adults, adolescents and families.  For seven years I worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Allen County with adolescents and families.  I have been in private practice in Ft. Wayne since 1989.

I have had the honor of working with adults, adolescents, couples, families and gay/lesbians.  I use what they have taught me through the years as well as the following influences in my approach to therapy:  Psychodynamic which explores patterns of behavior and beliefs developed in our early experiences; Cognitive Behavioral which involves increasing our understanding of the negative patterns of thinking that influence our feelings and behaviors; and Mindfulness which involves learning to be present, self compassionate and less egoic.  I believe these influences are effective in changing the core beliefs we have about ourselves, others and the world we live in which in turn supports a better sense of health and well-being.

I have the utmost respect for humanity.  I feel very fortunate to be a part of witnessing the transformation that occurs when someone has a moment of acceptance or insight that makes a shift in their perspective and behavior which gives them a chance to live differently.  The role of a therapist allows me to become intimately acquainted with people and I feel very thankful to be able to make a living doing what I love.
